ABOUT CHELSEA

As a former Trustee for The George Washington University (GWU) Board of Trustees, Chelsea has played an integral role in all aspects of higher education governance. She is a proponent of good governance and believes that our educational institutions are only as good as the communities they serve.

She helped navigate GWU through the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing the restructure of learning from in the classroom to online and expanding access to web-based educational materials so that all students had an opportunity to learn, regardless of where they lived. She served on the Academic committee that approved new curricula, oversaw the tenure of faculty, and worked with the unions on campus to create a culture and community that benefitted all. She also tirelessly advocated for student’s voices to be elevated in the decision-making process of the University and pushed for larger conversations about equity and access. While serving on the Board, GWU expanded its scholarship funds for low-income students and reimagined its Office of Alumni Relations to include increased mentoring opportunities for students of all backgrounds.

Chelsea has also worked in higher education for many years, first as a student staff member in the Office of Student Life and then in the Office of Admissions. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, Chelsea worked as a professional staff member and as a Graduate-level teaching assistant while completing her Master’s in Public Administration. Chelsea then embarked on a career as a public servant, first working in federal law enforcement and now at the Naval Postgraduate School. Her diverse background brings with it a breadth of experience that she will bring to the Monterey Peninsula College. She does not shy away from asking the tough questions that are necessary to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are spent effectively.

Chelsea loves Monterey and wants to help make Monterey Peninsula College the best community college in the region. She currently serves as the Cassanova Oak Knoll Neighborhood Community and Improvement Program Alternate and helps advocate for improvements that her neighborhood needs to the Monterey City Council. An avid runner and a mom to an amazing son, Chelsea and her family can often be found running the Monterey Rec Trail or trying many of our local restaurants.
